The Portrait of Town Alcantara

Alcantara is a town that has 84 kilometers from the capital City of Cebu. This was located at southern part of Cebu. At first it was called as kugtong (grouper) which is a name of a big fish that lived in a great fountain at the center of the town. When the spaniards came they changed the name kugtong into Alcantara as an exaltation of a town in Spain that was apparently the same as this place.

In 1830, Alcantara became a town from eastern towns of Ronda and Moalboal.This town has 3,538hectares that is bounded in the north by the municipality of Ronda, in the south by the municipality of Moalboal: in the east by the municipality of Argao: and in the westTanon Strait.

Simple but Gorgeous Alcantara

Alcantara is just a small town. This town was just very different from other towns here in Cebu that was known for its agriculture and different tourist spots.This town was just simple, small, peaceful and beautiful town.We have here beautiful spots that were made naturally.

(1) Sea paradise

This spot was surrounded by mangrooves, it has a so called bridge that was made of bamboos.

As we walk along the bamboo bridge there were animals here, or shall we say "Zoo in a sea paradise"

These was located near the Municipal hall in Barangay Poblacion

(2) Heaven's Rock

This was located at the mountainous barangay of Lawaan. It is a restaurant at the top a a stony mountain.

From here, we can see and appreciate the beauty of Alcantara

That is what nature is all about!

Alcantara is rich in marine and land resources aside from these, the only secret of Alcantara that makes it bahandianon was the people lived here, the Alcantarahanons. Alcantarahanons help in the improvement and maintaining the peacefulness of the town, by showing everybody the good values of being a Filipino. So, its not the resources the Alcantara had that makes it rich but the people behind it.
